How to “Go Green” For Your Baby and The Environment

Many environmentalists are urging parents to “go green” with their baby and use only eco-friendly products to help preserve the environment for many generations to come. If you are interested in joining the green movement and going organic for your baby, there are many ways with which you can incorporate earth-friendly measures that will ensure both your baby’s health, and the health of your natural surroundings.

One way you can make an effort is by using biodegradable or organic diapers for your baby. Cloth diapers are one example. This will lessen the number of disposable diapers that are made of plastic and chlorinated fiber and other harmful compounds which clog landfills and pose a threat to the earth’s water each day. Using home-made natural cloth wipes won’t harm your baby’s skin with all the chemical ingredients found in disposable wipes, either.

Before buying feeding bottles, check for the presence of the chemical Bisphenol-A (BPA), a component used in the manufacture of baby bottles. This chemical can actually leach through with the bottles’ repeated use, and can harm your baby with adipates and phtalates that are known to cause liver cancer and problems in the reproductive system. Use #5 plastic feeding bottles that are recyclable, as these do not contain BPA. Silicone nipples are also a good choice.

When choosing laundry soap for your baby’s cloth diapers and clothes, use products that are 100% natural, and are made from plant-based ingredients. These soaps are biodegradable, enzyme-free, dye-free, petroleum-free, and chlorine-free. They are also non-toxic and hypoallergenic for your baby’s health.

Even your baby’s clothing can help preserve the environment if they are made of 100% organic cotton or 100% wool material. Make sure that the clothing line you bought them from can guarantee that these baby clothes are free from exposure to any pesticides and chemicals, as well as untreated with formaldehyde and other toxic dyes during its manufacture.

Outfitting your baby in organic clothing will ensure freedom from allergens and toxic substances. You will be showing your support for organic farming, as well.

Going green for your baby may take a bit or work, but with patience, diligence, and vigilance, you will be keeping your pride and joy away from harmful elements, while doing your part in keeping the environment safe for your baby’s future.
